Real Standards

Our Story

Emily Powell & James Byrd are from North Carolina and breed Champion bloodline Standard Poodles. Our family has been breeding poodles since 2004 and grooming has been in the family since 1991. We are very dedicated to the health & happiness of all of our dogs.

At a young age I knew that I wanted to live and work around dogs. The first opportunity I had I got a job at a grooming salon in Kernersville, NC in 2015, where I met my husband James, who was the son of the groomer who hired me. Him and his mother worked closely with champion miniature poodles in the late 90's & early 2000's. We share the same love and infatuation for dogs.

Since then we have worked hard to hone our skills as groomer's and further our knowledge of the K9 world. Through our journey we have come to find the Standard Poodle is our favorite breed. Though we love all dogs immensely the standard poodle has a special place in our hearts. In 2020 we were able to purchase a nice home in Mocksville, NC and start construction of our own grooming, boarding & breeding business.
